LEAGUE HISTORY

In January 2013, through an initiative set up by UK Athletics, the existing National Junior Athletic League and the National Young Athletics League amalgamated to form the UK Youth Development League for athletes under 20 years of age.

The management of the new league was formed by utilising existing committee members in key roles, from the previous leagues.

A number of changes have taken place and the current management can be found on the contacts page.

Following the 2014 AGM Norma Blaine MBE retired as Chair to become the leagues first president with Grace Hall taking over as Chair.

The 2023 AGM will be held at the Holiday Inn M6 Jct 7 on Saturday 25th November commencing at 11.00am.

26.08.2023. National Finals Information.

Car Parking Saturday 2nd Sept.

Due to Manchester City playing at home there are limited car parking spaces available.

All clubs have been informed of this and were sent a Google Form to book a place, speak to your club/team contact.

Maximum 300 spaces available for athletics.

Please note that entry for spectators to the National Finals is CASH ONLY.

18.07.2023. IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION

All member clubs are being sent this statement plus additional information.

The EGM planned for September has had to be cancelled due to the very tight timeframe available for us to consult fully with member clubs, and in the light of other potential changes currently being discussed, to enable us to formulate proposals for change.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and will try to put aside a period of time immediately after the AGM to kickstart Member consultation for change in 2025.

07.02.2023. YDL Consultation on League Improvements for 2024.

At the UK Youth Development League AGM In November the member clubs agreed that the League would consult widely throughout the Sport to consider ways of improving the league.

The YDL has operated in it’s current format since 2013 and in that time has introduced changes to enable athletes to develop their athletic skills, these include reducing the sprint distances for U13 Boys and introducing high jump, hurdles and javelin for the U13 age group.

However the league has seen a drop off in the number of teams and athletes competing. To arrest this decline the league committee are taking views from member clubs, team managers, coaches, officials, athletes, parents and volunteers on changes that will make the competition experience better for each of the age groups (U13-U20).

To continue the consultation we are holding a drop in clinic at the England Athletics Age Group Championships in Sheffield on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th February.

If you are going to be there please drop in and share your views.

This session will be followed by a series of Zoom calls where we can share ideas to enable the league to make changes to the structure for the 2024 season.
